Once a year in the lead up to the Yamba Bridal Expo, Debbie May Flowers starts pulling together photos of the bouquets she’s created over the past year for the pages of her portfolio. It’s always a pleasure putting together my photos for her as it a chance to walk down memory lane and reminisce over some of my weddings of the past year.

Jess and Angus | Yee-hah!

My friend and previous photography assistant Jess, married her man is a sensational country wedding in Lawrence on the weekend. For all the unpaid hours, bag carrying, support and laughing at jokes she has heard me repeat many times, the best gift I could give her was to shoot her wedding. Brooke and Bruce | of love, laugher and happily ever after

There was predicted rain on the day of Brooke and Bruces wedding and I was incredibly thankful that there ceremony location was on the undercover deck of the Yamba Shores Taven. I packed the wet weather gear, brollys, camera gear and set off.

Istarted my day with the girls about an hour before the ceremony started. They were dressing at the Moby Dick Motel Yamba and we all organised and ready for photos when I arrived. Brooke and Bruce have a gorgeous little bub and she looked as cute a a button in her wedding clothes!

The Yamba Shores Tavern Deck was perfect for the ceremony and the restaurant looked amazing.

I always say that weddings bring their own magic and there is always a chance to take amazing photos, whatever the weather brings us. What we were blessed with was soft muted light from overcast skies. I couldn’t have been happier. After the ceremony we spent some time taking photos around the Yamba Lighthouse and the Turners Beach rocks.

I hope you are having a fantastic honeymoon in Fiji, it was great to be a part of your wedding day and I hope you love your photos!

Rebecca and Daniel | a gorgeous garden wedding

I knew Rebecca would be a gorgeous bride from the minute I met her at the Yamba Bridal Expo last year. When I arrived at Rebecca’s house she looked just perfect! Daniel is just so lovely. During their wedding day if I wanted him to smile, I asked him to look at Rebecca. His smile reached his eyes and then went further.

The light was just magic as I was taking photos and I was getting so excited! I guess I am what you would call an energetic photographer. I have way more fun than I probably should! I wish my brides and grooms didn’t have to go to their receptions.

Rebecca and Dan absolutely trusted me with their photographs and were up for anything I suggested. I hope that you love them!

The ceremony was held in Sannas gardens, Palmers Island and they are incredible. Every time I go there I am in awe. You see, I have one plant, it requires watering once per month. And even then I sometimes forget.

Gina is so passionate about her garden and her love for it shows in every corner. I was talking with Gina today and she can’t wait until she can just concentrate on her garden. I told her she could do that when she retires! She thinks she better get a wriggle on because she’s….been 21 a few times!

I have to admit I had a small giggle during the ceremony as my friend and celebrant Christine Preston held the bouquet for Rebecca. She looked like the bridesmaid!

Thank you so much Rebecca and Daniel for having me photograph your wedding. I feel so spoilt to be your photographer!! xx

On February 13, 2010 Rebecca and Dan were married in Sannas’ beautiful Gardens, Palmers Island. It must have been so special to wake up the next day and have Valentines Day as your first full day as husband and wife.

Vendor Spotlight- Endessas’ Beauty Spot

On your wedding day pamper yourself with professional makeup!

One thing I’ve learned is that ALL brides are beautiful on their wedding day. There’s nothing more flattering than the look of true love! No matter how low-maintenance you may be, though,you should still consider hiring a professional makeup artist to help you look your absolute best on the big day. Experienced makeup people know just how to emphasize your very best features so you’re ready for your close up at picture time!

I’m always rapt when my brides tell me they’ve chosen Edessa to do their makeup. I’ve photographed brides wearing make up by Endessa for 3 years now and I know she always does a fantastic job and the makeup photographs flawlessly. Apart from gracing North Coast brides with her fantastic make up, Endessa has worked at Fashion Shows as part of makeup artist Rae Morris‘ team.

Yesterday, I visited Endessas’ Beauty Spot for a quick photo shoot of some work she was doing. It’s fun for me to get out and do something out of the ordinary!

Vanessa and Michael | A beautiful morning wedding

When I woke at 5.30am on the day of Michael and Vanessas wedding the first thing I heard was rain, not just rain pitter patting on the roof top, but the roar of a torrential downpour. Like most of my weddings, Michael and Vanessa had an outdoor wedding planned and at that very moment in time, I seriously thought we would be heading indoors. My mind started racing, thinking of shooting locations in and around Maclean where I could keep everyone dry. I packed my wet weather gear, umbrellas and plastic bags and set off for the day.

I had a very early start with the boys, but they were up and ready having already cooked up a BBQ breaky!

Whilst the girls were having the final touches done to their make up, I took a few detail shots

This is such a simple design and it looked so beautiful. The flowers were the ultimate accessory to Vanessa’s gown.

Seeing everything all coming together is so exciting:

Vanessa just looked radiantly happy all day:

And classically gorgeous:

The ceremony was held at the Maclean Showground, in a picturesque area with the McFarlane Bridge and Clarence River in the background.

There was not a breath of wind and the river was a perfect mirror as Vanessa and Michael exchanged vows and rings:

I often don’t include photos of when my couples are signing the register as I don’t believe I do anything amazingly different to any other photographer out there. However, this time I’ve decided to, I think the photos show a good example of my style of shooting during the ceremony, photojournalistic and unobtrusive, my goal is to have you not even aware that I am there!

I really love the time when the witnesses are signing the register and the bride and groom get a chance to talk with each other, I love the glances, the touches and the smiles.

And then we have the kiss!!

If you are a regular reader of my blog, you will already know that this is one of my most favourite shots of the day!

I love how she scrunches up her nose when she laughs, and smile and laugh is what Vanessa did all day.

The bridal party were fantastic!

Very different photos here for me, being a nature girl I am often at beaches and the bush, these next few photos are very urban and funky!

I love it when a bride is into her photos and really brings it!

And Vanessa isn’t the only one with the moves, no sir-ee!

A huge congratulations to you both. I hope you have a great time in New Zealand, I can’t wait to catch up with you when you return.

Lily and Michael | Wedding

I loved how she smiled at him as her eyes met his as she entered the church on the arms of her proud dad. Tears of happiness flowed as his beautiful bride walked arm in arm with her Dad down the aisle to greet him. And with a smile that didn’t fade all day, Michael married his Lily in front of their closest family and friends. And I was lucky enough to be their photographer.

My day began with photographing the boys on the banks of the Clarence River, Maclean:

I think my eyes started to leak also, but I quickly pulled myself together so wouldn’t fog up the viewfinder!!

The ceremony was conducted by minister Al Bourke:

After the ceremony, we went up to the Maclean Lookout for some photos. The light filtering through the bush was beautiful:

The bodice of Lilys dress was encrusted with crystals and sequins and was just stunning. Lily wore her grandmothers pearls:

Michael and Lily had a fun welcome back to their reception!

The reception was a beautifully simple, a marquee in the front yard, perfect for a relaxed Summer afternoon. The high heels were ditched and the Haviananas came out as the cananpes and drinks were enjoyed.

Congratulations Lily and Michael! I hope you have a great honeymoon and I can’t wait to catch up with you when you return.
