This bright little button travelled from Grafton to visit with me a few weeks ago. His smile was magic and lit up his face and he giggled with his entire body. It was a pleasure to have him and his family in my studio for the morning.

Angourie Rainforest Resort was the perfect backdrop to Sarah and Nicholas’ wedding on Saturday 5 February. The day was warm, bright and clear. Sarah and Nick had a late afternoon ceremony under the shade of the poolside pergola. Sarah had gone to an amazing effort in creating the reception room atmosphere and it was decorated in crisp white and fresh greens.  The lolly bar was a sight to behold!

There wedding was beautifully romantic, timeless and elegant. Their family and friends were so warm and welcoming. It was an absolute pleasure to be Sarah and Nicks photographer. I hope you enjoy the photos from their special day.

It is the first time I have been to this conference and I’m really looking forward to hearing lots of inspiring talks, meeting some great photographers and catching up with photographer friends.

For my brides, grooms and portrait clients, attending the conference means that I will be away from the computer for a couple of days and won’t be able to respond to you in my usual timely manner, however the plus side is that I will be coming back full of great ideas and inspiration for the coming year! Bring it on!

A few weeks ago I took my cousin James out for a photo shoot. I know he’d been looking forward to it and we had been planning it since before
Christmas. The wild weather we’ve been having was holding us up however finally we had a gorgeous afternoon  so we seized the opportunity to scout around Yamba and grab some portraits.

James is going into year 12 this year, his final year of high school. What a perfect time to grab some photos of yourself or you and your friends. You’re only 18 once!!! Please contact me at info@vickijames.com.au if you are interested.

January 7th, 2011 was a big day for Khara and Chad, it was their 10th anniversary of being together and to celebrate, they married! It was a picture perfect day which was absolutely amazing considering the weather we have been having lately.

This wedding was also my very first for 2011 and I was a mixture of nervousness  and excitement!  Excitement because I couldn’t wait to join in the celebrations and nervousness because I knew a lot of people attending the wedding and Khara is a previous bridesmaid of mine so she knows what to expect.

Khara, Chad and Jake are a perfect family. I loved being a part of their day, thank you so much for having me. I hope you enjoy your photos.

2011 is set to be an extremely exciting year for me. There are lots of wonderful weddings booked, newborn babies tentatively booked (we just need to wait for them to get here!) and fantastic families set to come through the studio.

It was on this day 60 years ago that the first heirloom photograph of my grandparents new family was taken.

Pa had first noticed Nan when she was 14, he was riding and she was scootering, apparently using the wrong foot. He asked her to marry him upon his return from the Royal Australian Airforce, she was 19 and he 22. He waited until Nan was 21 to take her as his bride. It was a morning wedding in a Registry Office in Sydney.

He whisked her away on a honey moon to Laurieton, Nan dressed in her finery, to arrive at hotel filled with the loud locals. Nan changed into her new bridal lingerie in a communal bathroom down the hallway from their room. But they were in love….and 11 months later along came my mum, followed at regular intervals by my uncle and aunt.

Pa worked hard building and fishing to feed, clothe and house his family when times were tough. Mum can remember eating sugar sandwiches and thinking they were a treat, not realising that was all there was in the cupboard. Nan was always there after school to listen and give everyone afternoon tea and call them for dinner when it was time.

Pa had a dream…he wanted to leave Sydney. He found an old caravan park in what mum remembers thinking was Woop Woop but was actually Yamba. This is where his dream became a reality.

Pa worked like a trojan, driving from Sydney to Yamba and vice versa building and organising. Nan was  a heroine. She left Sydney, her home and family and drive all the way to Yamba in the night. My mum was in the back, sulky, distressed and  car sick, my uncle was in the front working the dimmer switch on the lights and Pa was in the truck in front with my aunt.

When they arrived in Yamba, nothing was quite finished but they opened the Moby Dick Motel for Christmas. This was in the late 1960′s.

They have been through good times, hard times, trying times, been there for each other in sickness and health and came out the other side with 3 children, 8 grand children and 11 great grandchildren.

We are all so very proud of them, proud of their achievements and proud to belong to them.
